Fact: In the last few years, the Philippines has grown to be one of the world’s top crypto adopters. Along with its booming economy, the Philippines’ crypto growth took off during the craze of the popular play-to-earn game, Axie Infinity, which aided in a massive turnaround for the financial health of many Filipinos.
With the Philippines on the rise to become one of the globe’s brightest crypto hubs, we were beyond excited to experience the inaugural Philippine Web3 Festival, hosted by Blockchain and Yield Guild, this past November.
Metagood software engineer, Clarke Plumo, dropped in to rep our OCM fam and get a lay of the land at this first-ever festival. Here’s the scoop on the 5-day event.

Monkeys Around the World
We aren’t surprised that we run into fellow monkeys wherever we go, but it never gets old. Clarke met a ton of wonderful people from day one, including Kookoo, a long-time OCM holder, and @_loopymoon and @VauxMachina, who went bananas with Clarke in our OCM banana costumes! VauxMachina is an excellent vox editor and won 2nd place in the Live Sandbox VoxEdit x OnChainMonkey contest.
Our friend Gabby Dizon, co-founder of Yield Guild Games, also stopped by to show OCM some love!

Playing the Game
Unsurprisingly, the festival focused heavily on play-to-earn NFT games, which has helped so many Filipinos shift out of poverty since 2020. Most topics and booths included play-to-earn games, so OnChainMonkey had the opportunity to stand out, showcasing how our community, rather than a gaming system, allows our brand to thrive.
We had tons of empowering moments, and lots of engagement from OCM newbies, learning about us for the first time. We traded covetable merch for those who tagged us on Twitter with a selfie and swapped in OCM mousepads for some of the game booths so attendees could play with the support of us monkeys!

Apl de Ap of the Black Eyed Peas spoke on stage about his inspiring story of moving from the Philippines to the US. He even performed for the attendees and stopped to take a selfie with Clarke. Epic!

We ended our time at the Web3 Festival the best way we know how – monkeying around with OCM holders! We drank wine at The Watering Hole, BGC, and many of us finally met in person for the first time! Amazing crew with diverse backgrounds, as always!

PH OCM Holders Meetup!
We can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year’s festival and how the NFT market continues to grow in the Philippines. Till next time!
