This September 2022 marked one year of RISE-ing in the community with our OCM family! September 2021 marks the birth of OCM Genesis and the beginning of our journey together. Bananas! What a year it’s been. We’ve accomplished a lot together, and it’s still the beginning, but we couldn’t go without a few celebrations and surprises! First things first, check our team’s awesome year-in-review video here!
Our community has grown so much, and you know how we love to get online together! So, we held an epic 3 hours and 40 minutes long Twitter Spaces event for our anniversary with a massive lineup of incredible talks and hangout spaces. Up first were founder reflections from Bill Tai, Amanda Terry and Danny Yang and an investor’s corner with some of our faves. We also brought in our Engineering team to talk about Metagood innovation and held a panel discussion on Monkeys Doing Good with Poonacha Machaiah (The Chopra Foundation), Ettore Rossetti (Save the Children International), and Sophia Swire (Future Brilliance).
Later, Sebastien Borget of The Sandbox came to talk about Monkeys in the Metaverse and our OCM community Manager, Roxie J., took us through some major community highlights like DAO and IRL meetups and bring up members of our community!
Speaking of IRL… it’s no secret our monkeys love to get together – our amazing community organized two IRL celebration events In LA and San Francisco.
Our community is continuing to organize several OCM IRL meetups around the world in the weeks to come. We had 15 community members in 4 countries volunteer to organize IRL meet-ups! Stay up to date on times and locations in our OCM-IRL-events channel in Discord.
We love to keep a few surprises up our sleeve, so we also launched a new OCM 1-Year Anniversary Mission for Genesis and Karma! The mission ends September 18th! You can check it out here.
OCM has always been about creating value for our community and doing real good in the world. It’s been a wild, amazing year. Here’s the highlight reel we can’t help but share:
- Dropped 3 successful NFT collections (Genesis, Desserts, & Karma), which has created wealth for our holders
- Created a historic first PFP collection all on chain in a single transaction
- Awarded Fast Company’s 2022 20 Best World Changing Ideas for Impact Investing for work we did, including funding the evacuation of Sharbat Gula, raising funds to rebuild homes in the Philippines impacted by Typhoon Odette, and funding internet for schools globally w Giga Connect
- Projected OCMs on landmark buildings in SF & LA, then on the Glasgow Armadillo building during COP’26 to raise awareness of the global climate crisis
- Launched OCM DAO, where 50% of our trading revenues fund projects submitted by anyone and voted on by our holders. 70 ETH will be distributed in our first season, which lasts until Oct 31, 2022!
- Created OCM Earth which raised $185K for Ukrainian humanitarian aid & was the 3rd largest contributor to Save the Children from any crypto community donation
- Launched our fungible token (bananas) that can be earned on Discord and Twitter to incentivize good behavior in our community
- Held a celebrity poker tournament with Owen Wilson, Woody Harrelson and Charlie Lee and a private meditation with Deepak Chopra and 3 x Olympian and OCM Ambassador Julia Djumovits
- Displayed OnChainMonkey Karma video on Times Square billboard during NFT NYC, courtesy of the NYSE
- Held multiple speaking & IRL events to bring our community together (including 2 with partners Dapper Labs and Ledger)
- Partnered with Hut 8 to join our OCM DAO & create an NFT collection for attendees of NeckerVerse, the first NFT, DAO, Web3 conference on Sir Richard Branson’s private island
- Featured by our investor Holly Branson on Virgin.com’s website for innovation with purpose
- Launched our Missions framework, which uses NFTs and fungible tokens to reward positive community actions.
